Subject: Bar Association Concern over MetaData Date: March 14, 2006 MentorDocs: Provides Free Download Macros to Remove MetaData
MentorDocs is well aware of various national and state bar association concerns over a practice known as "data mining" in word processed documents created by lawyers.
The exchange of word processed documents often enables unscrupulous persons to obtain sensitive information about the document creation and negotiation process, such as the names of draftsmen, comments and concerns of clients, and negotiation points and positions, many of which are often inserted in a document and then left there and forgotten as the document is circulated to the other party for review.
The other party may be able to find this "MetaData" as it is often called, and thereby obtain an unfair advantage over the other drafting party.
Bar Associations are also concerned that this may be a breach of an attorney's duty to maintain confidentiality, possibly a breach of attorney-client privilege, or other ethical (and possibly disciplinary) rules.
In view of this concern, MentorDocs created macros (for Word and WordPerfect) to remove MetaData. These macros come with our Document Assembler and can be downloaded for free and installed whether or not you also install our Document Assembler.
